Why providers send orders to us

A Standard Written Order shouldn't take three rounds of faxes.

Most spinal DME still moves on a fax-back SWO: a partly-filled form goes out, comes back missing a required element, goes out again. Peterson is rebuilding that flow — verified provider identity, orders that are complete at the moment they're signed, and an archive you never have to think about.

Until the provider portal launches, ordering is still simple — fax, email, or call — and we do the chasing, not your office.

See how ordering works

Verified prescribers

Provider identity is checked against NPPES and the OIG exclusion list before an order can be signed.

Complete on submission

Every SWO is checked against the six elements CMS requires (Article A55426) before it leaves the building.

Archived automatically

Signed orders are stored and indexed by physician NPI and date — for ten years, retrievable on request.

Built for referring providers

Less paperwork chasing. More signal, less back-and-forth.

  • One roster, many orders. A coming portal feature lets your office upload a patient roster as a spreadsheet and have draft orders built for you — the physician still signs each one individually, as Medicare requires.
  • Know the requirements up front. Our coverage assistant answers SWO, face-to-face, WOPD, and prior-authorization questions by HCPCS code — every answer pinned to the governing LCD or federal rule.
  • We handle the documentation legwork. Your team writes the order; we make sure it's complete, route it correctly, and keep the records.

Coming: provider portal

A verified web portal to replace fax-back SWOs — roster upload, draft-order generation, and a guided signing flow. In development now. Ask to be added to the early-access list for your clinic.

Coverage & SWO requirements assistant

Ask a documentation question. Get a sourced answer.

Type a question about what an order needs — by HCPCS code or product. Answers are drawn from the governing LCDs and federal rules and cite their source. General reference only — not a coverage guarantee, and not for patient details.

Built around the rules that govern DMEPOS

The constants we don't drift on

Spinal DME lives or dies on documentation. These are the federal rules our process is built on — the same ones the coverage assistant cites.

The SWO's six elements

Every order carries the beneficiary's name or MBI, the order date, an item description, quantity, the practitioner's name or NPI, and the practitioner's signature.

CMS Article A55426

Face-to-face within 6 months

For applicable items, the treating practitioner's face-to-face encounter must be documented within the six months before the order.

42 CFR 410.38

Records kept for a decade

CMS requires DMEPOS suppliers to retain documentation for at least seven years; Peterson keeps it for ten.
